Sunday 2 June 2013
Sunday 2nd. June. Persenbeug to Krems. 62km.
We raced off early from Persenbeug on the B3 road on the north side of the river, expecting roadblocks and found none. At Melk we crossed over to the south side and followed the B33, with a huge westerly blowing us along at a cracking pace. We stopped for lunch at Aggsbach Dorf, because it had started to rain. As we were packing up to continue, we saw that the firemen were starting to put up a roadblock on the B33 ahead, so we bolted through. The Danube is flowing very strongly and is visibly rising, but so far we have managed to squeeze our way beyond the water's edge. If the Danube keeps rising tonight, we will have a real challenge to get through to Tulln tomorrow. I'm sure that we'll find a way, though. Krems is surprisingly, a fairly modern city. Stayed at Orange Wings Hotel, Krems.
Route: Persenbeug - Klein Pochlarn - Melk - Schonbuhel - Aggsbach Dorf - Mautern - Stein - Krems.
