Spent two days resting in Geraldine and rode mostly downhill to Timaru which is back to the east coast. We have now done 950 kms since we started off at Wellington.Still good weather.Ash still riding in shorts.
There was a Kiwi (Richard Pearce) who actually flew a plane in 1903 (9 months before the Wright Brothers made their first flight), but unfortunately crashed. He survived the crash and lived to about 80. We decided to go and see the monument at the crash site and the replica of the plane which we were assured was only 2km off the road. After riding for more than 5km we decided to turn round and google it another day. Ash still riding in shorts. Locals say it is an unusually warm autumn. Timaru is at sea level back on the east coast. We had lunch at the famous Caroline Bay. Timaru nothing special. Reminds us of a small version of Durban
