Friday 10th. May. Montbeliard to Mulhouse. 64km.
It was mostly downhill with a good tailwind today, so we cruised all day with ease. We were extraordinarily lucky to find a bike shop who could replace my crankcase, chain and rear cogs straight away (tout suite in French), while we waited. It also cost us less than half what we would have paid in Perth.
Mulhouse (pronounced M'loose) is a very busy, attractive little city with lots of chestnut trees which are in full bloom at the moment. I think the big Peugeot car factory here drives the local economy. The shops are very busy and there seems to be a lot of commercial activity. This is the last French city we are seeing, and tomorrow we will be in Basel, Switzerland. Stayed at Interhotel Salvator - very nice.
Route: Montbeliard - Montreux-Chateau - Dannemarie - Zillisheim - Mulhouse.
