Wednesday 1st. May. Digoin to Montceau-les-Mines. 54 km.
The day started off with beautiful clear weather, but after about two hours we suddenly noticed that a massive dark grey storm cloud had formed behind us, and a huge breeze started blowing us along. We thought that we would try to outrun the storm, but it caught up with us. Once again, we must have had the gods looking after us, because we found a perfect shelter, just as the storm hit. We just had lunch until the storm passed. We seem to be slowly climbing to higher country.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of travelling by bike in rural France is the constant sound of the songbirds. We even heard the sound of the woodpecker, which sounds like a mini jackhammer. The sound is so loud that one wonders how its beak handles the battering. Stayed at the Hotel Restaurant Konine.
Route: Digoin - Paray-le-Monial - Volesvres - Palinges - Genelard - Montceau-les-Mines.
