Saturday 4th. May. Losne to Dole. 28km.
It was such a short easy ride, that we had to stretch out our lunchbreak. We're now in the Alsace Region. Dole is a very old and very charming, well-maintained city. We went for a walk through the old city and went into the amazing Notre Dame Cathedral (1506), and the organist was playing the most beautiful music. We read on the plaque (in French) outside the church, that there is some significant historic importance about the organ, but couldn't quite figure out what it was. The acoustics it produced were absolutely sublime. As we were walking around, we came across the house where Louis Pasteur was born. He created the method for successfully treating rabies, and of course, invented the pasteurisation method for the treatment of milk and dairy products. Dole is even more impressive than Bourbon-Lancy.
My crankcase has worn itself out, so I'm hoping that it will last one more day until we reach Besancon' where we have a three day break and enough time to fix it. Les' cycle computer has also spat the dummy, so we will have to replace that as well. Stayed at the Hotel Restaurant Pourcheresse.
Route: Losne - Damparis - Tavaux - Choisey - Dole.
