Lovely meandering ride through towns, villages and parks and bush. We came across the site of an RAF aircrash in the middle of an isolated field. The HMAS Lincoln (a Wellington) crashed there in the late stages of the war, after returning from a bombing raid over Germany. The crew (2 Canadians, 2 New Zealanders, 1 Australian and 1 Englishman) had bailed out before the crash, but landed in the North Sea and did not survive the cold conditions. The plane flew on unmanned and crashed in the field just north of Amsterdam.
We went through Amsterdam again today and followed the Amstel river south to Vinkeveen. My third impression of Amsterdam was very much better. Its charms definitely outweigh its flaws.
