Monday 12th September 2011 Hasselt to Herselt 59 km
It's only 45 km between the two, but because we meander through villages and along rivers we have done 59 km. We were told by the TV weather report that we were experiencing the remnants of hurricane Katya today. It was pretty windy (mostly headwinds), but thankfully no rain.
We came across an old cobbled road next to a castle in the middle of nowhere. By the looks of it I would guess that it (the road) dates back perhaps Roman times, and it is still been used!
Belgium is a pretty country and the cycle network is very easy to follow. We stayed at a B & B called Yentl's Place in Herselt. Very nice and highly recommended. Our breakfast was superb = freshly squeezed orange juice, perfect eggs, fresh croissants and pastries, and excellent tea and coffee.
No sign of any autumn colours yet. The average high has been around 20 C and low arond 11 C which is not cold enough to turn the leaves.
