Friday 19th. April. Chinon to Tours. 55km.

Overlooking Chinon, The Royal Fortress built by the Count of Blois is an amazing part of history of France and England. The Court of Henry II Plantagenet and Eleanor of Aquitaine was established here in the 12th century. Philip Augustus, cocnqueror of John Lackland, lived here in 1205. In 1429, in the Great Hall of the house, a historic meeting took place between Joan of Arc and the Dauphin,(later King Charles VII)

We had a beautiful easy ride through peaceful picturesque countryside to Tours. The trees are all starting to get their flowers and leaves. The entry to Tours is via a long straight avenue, which eventually becomes car-free. We love Tours - an ancient Gallo/Roman city , once capital of the Kingdom of France, and also the original home of the French language. We can't believe we are cycling through so much history.

Stayed at Hotel des Arts.

Route: Chinon - Huismes - Brehemon = La Chapelle Aux Naux - Villandry - Savonnieres - Tours.
