Tuesday 16th April. Nantes to Montjean-sur-Loire. 72km.
What a difference to the Brittany Canals - mostly tarred roads and very well signposted. Also, we had a very nice tailwind all the way. The snow in central France is melting and the Loire river is flowing very strongly as a consequence. We've been told that the river has been rising steadily for days, so we've been lucky not to encounter more flooded areas. We had only one small detour today.
We came across some frogs in the waterways who sound a lot like Kookaburras - a sort of mad cackling laughter sound.
We're staying at a glorious old Chateau with a charming host and beautiful gardens and views of the Loire.
Route:: Nantes - Thouare-sur-Loire - La Varenne - Oudon - Ancenis - St.Florent-le Viel - Montjean-sur-Loire.
