Monday 17th October 2011 Bodmin to Camelford 29 km

We were very fortunate to find "Bodmin Bikes" about a stones throw from our hotel, who replaced the broken spoke straight away while I waited. I was very grateful indeed.

The "Camel Trail", which took us from Bodmin to Camelford alongside the river Camel, is an old railway track. This made the slow climb up to the beginning of the Bodmin Moor very easy. When we did the last big climb up the plateau, the scene changed rapidly from Inyanga-like forest to the tree-less windswept granite strewn open moors. As I came over a blind rise on the moor, I surprised two young clydesdale horses in the road. I don't know who was more alarmed, me or them, but they scampered away in haste. We had a good wind behind us, so I was going quite fast.

This has been a real highlight of all our rides in England. We both love Cornwall.

Since we arrived in Holland, we have now done 2009 km, and a total of 4791 km since we started out in Wellington. I reset my speedo to zero in Amsterdam, so I am getting our running total from it. Our overall total is recorded on Les' speedo, which hasn't been reset since we started. Her speedo shows a slightly shorter trip distance to mine every day, but mine seems to be more accurate to the map distances.
