Saturday 15th October 2011 Truro to St. Austell 54 km
Cornwall is very scenic, with lots of green hills with hedgerows, and lots of steep valleys. We had to cross the Fal river by means of the King Harry Ferry. We're finding the steep hills quite challenging, but the area is such an enjoyable experience that it worth the effort. We had to make a very long and hilly detour today. The cycle route we were following was closed with a very small sign annoucing "Closed for shooting". We debated whether we should just soldier on but on hearing gunfire we decided we should take another path, and promptly got lost. Friendly locals once again came to the rescue and set us on the right path, but not until after having to go up and down several big hills. The farmland and forest areas that we've been through were so quiet and peaceful. Even the cows are silent!
I spotted an original Austin 7 in St. Austell and couldn't resist a photo. It must be over 70 years old and still going.
