Thursday 6th October 2011 Kings Lynn to Hayle, Cornwall by train
After spending four days loafing in Kings Lynn, we decided to catch the train to Cornwall in the south western point of Englandso that we can ride north to Hereford with the favourable winds. Everybody says that Cornwall and Devon are really beautiful, so we are going to make our way slowly through them and hopefully arrive in Hereford on about 1st November. We are spending the next 6 days based in St Ives while we do daily rides to explore the area.
The train journey to Hayle was a bit of a challenge. When we arrived at Kings Lynn station our train had broken down and we had to catch a replacement bus to Ely about 60km away. At Ely we caught the train to Cambridge, where we had to race to another platform to get on another train to Kings Cross (London). At Kings Cross we had to find the underground service to Paddington. Half way to Paddington the service was stopped due to signalling problems, so we had to swap trains again. This will the added complication of two bicyles fully laden with 4 panniers and a clothing bag each. We finally made it to Paddington (no sign of the bear) and eventually got on the regional train to Cornwall. The scenery on the way down was increasingly beautiful. We finally arrived in Hayle well after dark and then had to cycle to our hotel, along a very busy road. Quite a journey all in all.
